About this event
Date: 4 March 2027, 14:00 – 15:00 (CET)Price: Free (for eligible participants)Format: AI:AT Webinar, ONLINE (Zoom)Target audience: Industry, public admin, academiaLanguage: EnglishOrganizer: AI:ATDiscover what Artificial Intelligence (AI) has to offer beyond generative AI.AI has inevitably entered the general discussion throughout most fields of our daily lives. However, most people still believe that AI is this new technology that has been released with the launch of ChatGPT in 2022. What most people are not aware of is the fact that AI is actually a topic that organizations are working on for almost 100 years now, and spans far beyond generative AI tools such as ChatGPT.In this webinar, we dig into the history of AI, and based on the historical background derive the actual scope of the term AI, underlying techniques and potentials, as well as driving forces that lead to multiple hype cycles surrounding the term AI throughout the last decades.Learning outcomes:Distinguish cloud computing, Edge AI and TinyML, and explain how IoT data and hardware constraints influence deployment choices.Apply quantization, unstructured pruning with fine-tuning, and teacher-student knowledge distillation in guided PyTorch exercises.Export and run a model with ONNX Runtime, and compare accuracy, model size, sparsity and latency against an FP32 baseline without assuming that a smaller model is automatically faster.Target audienceStudents, researchers and practitioners with basic machine learning experience who want to prepare neural networks for resource-constrained devices. This webinar is open and free of charge for all participants from academia, industry, and public administration from EU and/or EuroHPC JU member countries.Entry level & prerequisitesBasic Python, neural networks and model evaluation. Familiarity with Jupyter notebooks and PyTorch is helpful. A laptop with the course Python environment is required; the planned exercises run on a CPU.AgendaFor a detailed timetable and additional information, please see Agenda & Content in the left menu.SpeakersRadu Prodan (University of Innsbruck)Prof. Radu Prodan is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Innsbruck, where he leads the Edge AI research group. His research interests include distributed and parallel systems, cloud, edge and fog computing, social media networks, artificial intelligence and federated learning.Turgud Valiyev (University of Innsbruck)Turgud Valiyev is a research assistant and PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Innsbruck, working in the Edge AI research group led by Prof. Prodan. His interests include Edge AI, federated learning, machine learning and data science, with a focus on training and optimizing AI models for resource-constrained devicesLocationThis course is offered as LIVE ONLINE WEBINAR via Zoom.RegistrationRegistration is required, the link to the registration form can be found on the top of this page in the menu on the left.
